State to take action against those charging illegal credit card fees

Since Covid business’ like restaurants, general stores and even medical professionals.

As of February 11, 2024 there are specific circumstances where a business can charge a fee. The attached letter from NY State AG’s office explains the way it can be done legally.

It may seem trivial if a business charges you an extra $1 or $2 but with the increased prices and the fee can amount to a large amount of illegal gains. It isn’t fair to be cheated. If the business wants to charge a fee; let them follow the law. Charging an 3% fee onto the bill is ILLEGAL. Administrative Fees are Illegal.

During Covid, restaurant’s and many business’ began charging a fee to use a credit card. While it might have been a violation; it was ignored to help them stay in business. As with anything a business finds works for them, they fail to eliminate them after a crisis is over.

If you think you are assessed a fee in violation of the law. You can now take action. You can file a complaint at:

Note: Remember nothing can be accomplished if we do not speak out and take an interest. This moratorium is because many residents of Calverton called out to say “NO WAREHOUSES”. This is just the beginning but it is a very good beginning. Most importantly never listen to the naysayers who say we can’t stop them or it is a done deal. As Yogi Berra once said: “It ain’t over till its over”
